Convert LCF to another file type

To convert LCF library containers to another format, you need ArchiCAD or other 3D software.

Convert a file to LCF

To convert other file formats to the "Asset Container Archive" file type, you need software like ArchiCAD or a similar tool.

About LCF files

An .LCF (Library Container File) is primarily an archive format used by ArchiCAD to bundle multiple 3D objects, textures, materials, and GDL (Geometric Description Language) macros into a single package. It acts as a specialized zip file for architectural CAD projects. This makes it easier for designers to share entire libraries of project-specific assets without breaking complex file paths.

You can open and manage these files using ArchiCAD. However, the proprietary nature of the .LCF format is a major disadvantage. Standard archive tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR cannot natively open or extract an .LCF file. If you do not have an active, expensive ArchiCAD subscription, accessing the 3D models or textures hidden inside is almost impossible.

Additionally, .LCF files are used in completely different contexts. They serve as encrypted PDF containers by the Quebec Ministry of Justice (requiring a specific LCF Viewer), as compact data files for Lascar Electronics data loggers, or even as older game launcher configuration files for Electronic Arts titles. These alternative formats are entirely distinct and highly locked down.

Users typically need to convert or extract .LCF files to access the individual GSM (ArchiCAD Object) files, JPG textures, or PDF documents inside. Because this file format is heavily proprietary and difficult to open or convert, standard online converters will fail to process it. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LCF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RFA, GSM, ICF, ZIP, LCPL, IFC, SKP, DXF, PDF, RCP, DWG, SLDPRT and JPG files.

FAQ

If you want to convert LCF file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use ArchiCAD or similar software from the "3D Asset Container Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to LCF, try ArchiCAD or another comparable tool in the "3D Asset Container Archive" category.

The LCF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LCF converter.
