Convert LAB to another file type
To convert LAB label files to another format, you need CODESOFT or other Page Layout software.
Convert a file to LAB
To convert other file formats to the "Barcode Label Design File" file type, you need software like CODESOFT or a similar tool.
About LAB files
The .LAB file format primarily stores proprietary barcode label designs and layout settings created by Teklynx CODESOFT. In scientific and educational contexts, it is alternatively used as an experiment data container by software like LabVIEW, Atelier Scientifique, and LD Didactic CASSY Lab. Depending on the origin, these files either use a legacy Microsoft Compound format to map dynamic database fields to print layouts, or they store raw data using UTF-16 (LE) text and ZIP compression.
The main disadvantage of .LAB files is their highly fragmented, proprietary nature. A CODESOFT label file requires an expensive commercial license to open, and it cannot be previewed natively in web browsers, mobile devices, or standard image editors. Sharing these files with clients or colleagues usually results in immediate compatibility roadblocks. Furthermore, if a label design relies on a local database connection, the layout will appear empty on another computer. Scientific .LAB files lock your lab results into a specific vendor ecosystem, making peer review difficult.
To overcome these limitations, you need to convert the file into an accessible format. For reviewing label designs, convert the .LAB to PDF to lock the layout and fonts, or to a high-resolution PNG for quick web previews. For archiving scientific data or phonetic annotations, convert to a standard CSV or TXT file. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser using convert.guru - free, online, and without installing software. Note that dynamic database links in label designs will be flattened into static elements during document conversion.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LAB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LAB file to RGB, CMYK, HEX, RAL, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8 or PM9, you can use CODESOFT or similar software from the "Label Design & Experiment Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to LAB, try CODESOFT or another comparable tool in the "Label Design & Experiment Data" category.
The LAB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LAB converter.
