The .LAB file extension serves two distinct but equally specialized functions. In commercial supply chains, it is predominantly a Barcode Label Design file created by Teklynx CODESOFT, storing page layouts, variable barcode parameters, and database links. In academic environments, .LAB files act as data containers for scientific experiments logged by LabVIEW, LD Didactic CASSY Lab, or as audio segment annotations used in phonetic software like Praat.
Because these files are engineered for niche hardware systems, they suffer from severe proprietary lock-in.
