About LAD files
The .lad file format is primarily used to store Ladder Logic diagrams and programs for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and CNC machines. This visual programming language maps out industrial automation processes using virtual relays, timers, and motor controls. These files are typically created, compiled, and maintained by specialized, vendor-specific engineering suites like FANUC PMC Ladder Tool, Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7, CMH Software Constructor, or Rockwell Automation RSLogix. Because these files dictate the behavior of physical manufacturing hardware, they are highly proprietary and structured differently by every manufacturer. The biggest disadvantage of the .lad format is severe vendor lock-in and poor accessibility. A Siemens .lad file cannot be opened natively by a FANUC controller. Furthermore, opening these files on a standard PC requires extremely expensive industrial software licenses. You cannot natively view a ladder diagram in a web browser or standard text editor. To share logic sequences with maintenance technicians or project managers who do not own the required engineering software, conversion is mandatory. For archiving and universal visual reference, convert .lad to PDF/A. For raw data extraction and code review, convert the logic to XML or TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LAD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LAD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LAD converter.
