About KVS files

A .KVS file typically serves as a proprietary audio container for video games developed by Koei Tecmo. It acts as an archive holding background music and sound effects. In enterprise and industrial environments, the .KVS extension is also heavily used as a compressed Key-Value Store database file by Kx Systems kdb+, an HMI data logger file for KEYENCE KV-Studio and Mitsubishi CNC Controllers, or as geotechnical soil analysis data in GGU-SIEVE.

The .KVS format is heavily fragmented and strictly proprietary. Its primary disadvantage is that standard media players and data software cannot read it. Game audio files cannot be played in VLC without extraction. Industrial and database variants are completely unreadable without an active, expensive software license. Standard converters fail because they lack the proprietary codecs or database schemas required to parse the binary data.

To convert game audio .KVS files, users typically rely on community tools like KVS Extractor to unpack the contents into standard WAV or OGG files. Database or logger versions must be exported to CSV directly from the original software. Even though this file format is difficult to open or convert, our analysis can inspect the file, detect if it is the audio or database variant, and show text or internal content. If we detect a supported underlying format - such as the GZIP compression used in kdb+ files - viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KVS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KPR, KV, URL, JPG, AMB, CKB, X64 and CV files.
