Convert KSC to another file type
To convert KSC scripts to another format, you need Korg Kronos or other Settings software.
Convert a file to KSC
To convert other file formats to the "Hardware Configuration Script" file type, you need software like Korg Kronos or a similar tool.
About KSC files
A .KSC file primarily functions as a script or configuration file. It is most commonly used by Korg Corporation synthesizers (like the Kronos, Trinity, or Triton) to instruct the hardware on how to load multi-sample instrument collections. Alternatively, a .KSC file can act as a karaoke song timing script for software like KaraFun Player or KaraokeKanta, a game engine script for the KiriKiri Adventure Game System (often encoded in UTF-16), or even a highly complex process simulation case file for KBC Petro-SIM.
The major disadvantage of the .KSC format is its highly specialized, proprietary nature. A Korg .KSC file does not contain actual audio data; it merely points to external sample files like KMP and KSF. Without the original samples or specific hardware, the file is virtually useless. Similarly, Petro-SIM simulation files require expensive, specialized engineering software to open. Because these files heavily rely on external assets or proprietary parsing engines, standard online converters fail to process them into typical media formats.
Depending on the file's origin, text-based .KSC scripts (like karaoke lyrics or KiriKiri game scripts) can sometimes be safely converted to standard TXT or LRC (LyRiCs) files for easier editing. However, converting a Korg script into actual audio is impossible without the underlying samples.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Despite these challenges, convert.guru acts as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like UTF-16 text, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your KSC file.
If you want to convert KSC file to PSI, MPA, BAR, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF or OPUS, you can use Korg Kronos or similar software from the "Hardware Synthesizer Sample Script" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to KSC, try Korg Kronos or another comparable tool in the "Hardware Synthesizer Sample Script" category.
The KSC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KSC converter.
