About KMP files

The .kmp extension is a shared filename used by three distinct, incompatible systems, creating significant confusion.

1. Keyman Keyboard Package (Most Common):
Approximately 48% of these files are installable packages for Keyman Desktop. These are effectively renamed ZIP archives containing compiled keyboard layouts (matrix.kmx), visual guides, and custom fonts (ttf).

The Problem: Users often download these needing only the specific language font for use in Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop, but the file forces them to install the entire input method software just to access the contents.
The Solution: Rename the extension from .kmp to zip to extract the internal fonts and PDFs manually, or use a conversion tool to unpack the assets.

2. Korg Multisample File:
Used by hardware synthesizers like the Korg Triton, Trinity, and Pa-Series, this binary file maps audio samples to specific piano keys.

The Problem: A .kmp file is strictly a map; it contains no audio itself. It relies on a folder of accompanying KSF (Korg Sample File) files. Without these, the .kmp is useless. Furthermore, modern DAWs (like Ableton Live) cannot read this proprietary hardware format.
The Solution: For music production, use Awave Studio to convert the .kmp (and its linked .ksf files) into a standard SoundFont (.SF2) or WAV instrument.

3. LDPlayer Keymap:
A JSON-based configuration file used by the LDPlayer Android emulator to map keyboard presses to touchscreen actions. These are plain text and can be edited with any code editor.
