About KEV files

The .kev file extension primarily represents a Kernel Event Trace Log used by the QNX Neutrino Real-Time Operating System and advanced analysis tools like Tracealyzer. These files capture highly detailed system events, hardware interrupts, and thread scheduling data required for debugging complex embedded systems. Alternatively, .kev files can function as proprietary game landscape map files for titles in the Team17 Worms series or as extraction maps for the PlayStation game Killzone 2.

As a trace log, the .kev format is highly specific and often compiled in binary. Its main disadvantage is that it is entirely proprietary and impossible to read natively with standard text editors. The files frequently grow excessively large and require expensive, specialized software like Tracealyzer or the QNX Momentics IDE to interpret the telemetry data. Game map variants are strictly locked to their respective game engines, making them virtually useless outside of their specific video game environment.

For log analysis, users typically need to export the data to CSV, TXT, or XML formats to review timelines in spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. For game maps, converting the data to PNG or standard 3D formats like OBJ is highly requested by modding communities but rarely supported by off-the-shelf tools.

Because these formats are heavily specialized, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the exact format, inspect the binary headers, and view raw text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KEV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KEY, SAL, GBD, DGO, KV, NM, EV and V files.

The KEV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KEV converter.
