About DGO files

The .DGO file extension has three distinct and completely unrelated uses. Primarily, it is a diagnostic log file generated by Dell EqualLogic and Dell EMC UnityVSA storage arrays. IT administrators use these logs to troubleshoot hardware failures or storage array performance issues. Secondly, it is a map save file created by Dungeonographer, a tabletop role-playing game map creation tool. These files are stored using UTF-16 (BE) encoding and contain tile placements, GM notes, and grid data. Finally, .DGO is a compiled game object file used by Naughty Dog in PlayStation titles like Jak and Daxter, written in their custom GOAL (Game Oriented Assembly Lisp) language.

The primary disadvantage of the .DGO format is that it is highly proprietary. Dell diagnostic logs are often encrypted or packaged in custom binary wrappers that only official Dell Support tools can fully parse. This forces users into relying on enterprise support contracts just to read their own error logs. Dungeonographer maps require a specific Java-based desktop application to open, making them impossible to share directly with players on mobile devices or standard web browsers. Naughty Dog game binaries are completely useless outside of console emulation or dedicated reverse-engineering environments.

If you need to share a Dungeonographer map, the best target format is PNG or JPG. While you lose the ability to edit individual map tiles, the resulting image file is universally accessible. For Dell diagnostic logs, converting to TXT or CSV is the goal, but standard online converters fail to process .DGO files because these are obscure, closed-ecosystem formats with no public specifications.

Because these files are difficult to open, you almost always need the original software to properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DGO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SAL, XLOG and TLM files.
