A .jbf file is primarily associated with Janome embroidery machines as a Janome Batch File, found on USB drives alongside JEF stitch data files. These files act as catalog indices or thumbnail caches that allow Memory Craft machines (like the MC500E or MC15000) to browse and display designs efficiently. Unlike the actual design file (JEF), a .jbf file typically contains file management data, sort orders, and preview images rather than the vector stitch commands itself.
Users often encounter .jbf files when backing up embroidery USB sticks or cleaning up hard drives. A secondary common use is by Corel Paint Shop Pro, which generates .jbf files as Browser Cache Files to store thumbnail previews of images in a folder. These are temporary system files that can become cluttered. Less frequently, a .jbf may be a Job Definition File used by Fujifilm (formerly Fuji Xerox) printers to manage print job instructions.
Because .jbf files are often accessory files, they cannot always be directly converted into a usable design if the source JEF is missing.
