About INFO files
The .info file is a catch-all extension used by countless applications to store metadata, project settings, or cache data. Common uses include mobile phone backups generated by Wondershare MobileTrans, game data scripts in the Paradox Clausewitz Engine, and module manifests for Drupal. Because it is a generic name, you cannot trust the extension alone. Many .info files are simply TXT, JSON, or XML data saved with a custom extension to prevent users from accidentally modifying them. However, older systems like the Amiga used .info files as proprietary binary containers to store Workbench desktop icon graphics. Canon's ZoomBrowser and Zoner Photo Studio use it for proprietary image thumbnail caching. This fragmentation makes .info files extremely annoying to work with. Double-clicking usually fails with a system error. If it is a proprietary binary cache, attempting to read it in a text editor yields garbled text. The format is completely unstandardized, locking your data inside the specific software that generated it. To make the data readable, you must convert it. For plain text metadata, convert to TXT, JSON, or XML to restore standard file associations for modern code editors. For Amiga icon files, convert to PNG or JPG for web and modern viewing.
