About IB files
The .ib file extension represents two distinct but common formats: a Game Index Buffer used in 3D rendering for titles like Genshin Impact, or an InterBase Database file developed by Embarcadero.
For gamers and modders, the .ib file contains raw geometry data (indices for vertices) used to construct 3D character models. These are proprietary binary files that cannot be opened directly in standard editors like Blender or Autodesk Maya. Users typically need to convert these .ib files (often paired with vb vertex buffers) into standard 3D formats like OBJ, FBX, or DAE to modify meshes or create fan art.
In a business context, an .ib file is a database created by InterBase. These files store critical organizational data but are locked to the server instance. Administrators often face challenges accessing this data without the original InterBase server installed. To migrate or analyze this data, users must convert the .ib database tables into CSV, SQL, or XLSX (Excel) formats using database conversion tools. Additionally, older Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones used .ib files for phonebook backups, which now require conversion to VCF (vCard) for use on modern Android or iOS devices.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IB file to DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB, MYD, FRM or SQL, you can use InterBase or similar software from the "3D Game Model Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to IB, try InterBase or another comparable tool in the "3D Game Model Storage" category.
The IB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IB converter.
