About IN files

A .in file is fundamentally a generic input file used across various software environments. It is famously utilized in programming competitions, such as Google Hash Code, to feed plain text test cases into algorithms. However, this extension is heavily fragmented. Beyond plain text, it functions as a ZIP-based note backup archive for the ColorNote app, a JSON-formatted Wi-Fi configuration file for GoPro cameras, and even as a digital tax certificate format by the Italian Agenzia delle Entrate.

Because .in is a generic, non-standardized extension, operating systems rarely know which software to use when you try to open it. This fragmentation creates significant challenges. Double-clicking a .in file will likely result in an error or open a blank app. While a basic text editor can read programming input files, it will display a wall of gibberish if the file is actually a compressed ColorNote backup or a disguised binary file.

To make the file usable, you must convert it based on its internal data. For programming and algorithmic text data, convert to TXT or CSV for universal readability and editing. If your file is a ColorNote backup, convert it to ZIP so you can easily extract the encrypted note database. For GoPro configurations, converting to JSON restores code structure and syntax highlighting.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IB, IN_, ANS, BIN, EXE, TXT, GJT, TFT, KDT, PDF, JPG and MP3 files.

The IN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IN converter.
