Convert I3D to another file type
To convert I3D 3D scenes to another format, you need GIANTS Editor or other 3D software.
Convert a file to I3D
To convert other file formats to the "Game Engine Scene File" file type, you need software like GIANTS Editor or a similar tool.
About I3D files
The .I3D file is primarily a 3D scene format utilized by the GIANTS Engine, developed by GIANTS Software. It is universally used by modders creating custom vehicles, maps, and assets for the Farming Simulator video game franchise. A secondary, much rarer application is the Houdini Image 3D format utilized by Houdini.
The current .I3D format presents significant challenges outside of game development. It is highly proprietary and strictly tied to a single game engine. More importantly, an .I3D file is typically just an XML roadmap; it does not contain the actual image textures, instead relying on external DDS files. Sharing an .I3D file alone usually results in broken, untextured models. Standard 3D viewers built into Windows, macOS, or web browsers cannot render .I3D files natively.
To make these 3D models usable in standard pipelines, you should convert .I3D files to universally accepted formats like OBJ, FBX, or STL. Converting to FBX retains scene hierarchies and basic material links, while OBJ provides maximum compatibility with mainstream software like Blender. Be aware that engine-specific shaders, animations, and game-logic scripts will be permanently lost during the conversion process.
This file format is difficult to open or convert accurately. Because .I3D files rely on proprietary GIANTS Engine rendering libraries, generic online 3D converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original GIANTS Editor can properly read or export the geometric data. However, convert.guru offers a practical workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Because the majority of .I3D files are structured as raw XML, our analysis tool can inspect the file, reveal the internal text, and help you troubleshoot missing texture paths. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your I3D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert I3D file to OBJ, JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR or PSD, you can use GIANTS Editor or similar software from the "3D Game Scene Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to I3D, try GIANTS Editor or another comparable tool in the "3D Game Scene Storage" category.
The I3D Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our I3D converter.
