About SHAPES files
The .SHAPES file format is a proprietary vector graphics container used exclusively by Pixelmator Pro, an image editor for macOS. These files store custom vector shapes, paths, and layer configurations for quick reuse in digital design projects. The main disadvantage of the .SHAPES format is its closed, proprietary nature. It is strictly limited to the Apple ecosystem, requires a paid software license to open, and cannot be viewed natively in web browsers or edited on Windows and Linux systems. Standard online converters completely fail to process it because the internal data structure is not publicly documented. The best conversion targets for vector graphics are standard SVG or PDF files, which maintain infinite scalability without quality loss. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SHAPES file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SHAPES file to TEXT, SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA or XFL, you can use Pixelmator Pro or similar software from the "Custom Vector Shape Library" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to SHAPES, try Pixelmator Pro or another comparable tool in the "Custom Vector Shape Library" category.
The SHAPES Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SHAPES converter.
