The .HML extension typically refers to a Hangul Markup Language document, an XML-based format associated with Hancom Office, the de facto standard word processor in South Korea. Unlike standard DOCX files, HML files are designed to handle the specific intricacies of the Korean language and legacy formatting from older versions of Hangul (often referred to as HWP). While technically XML, these files are notoriously difficult to work with outside of the Hancom ecosystem. Users without the specific Korean software suite often find themselves unable to open these documents in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, facing "invalid format" errors or garbled text rendering. For editing purposes, the pragmatic solution is converting the file to DOCX or RTF.
