An .ATT file is most commonly a generic email attachment or web form post data file that has lost its original extension during routing. When email clients like Microsoft Outlook or webmail servers process attachments improperly, they strip the original file name and assign the generic .att extension.
Because .ATT files are not a uniform format, there is no single program designed to open them. Underneath the generic extension, the file is usually a disguised PDF, JPG, ZIP, or DOCX. In specialized cases, an .ATT file might be a traffic simulation attribute file generated by PTV Vissim or a configuration file for enterprise communication software.
