About EDGE files
The .edge extension represents two distinct file types that often confuse users due to their conflicting purposes.
- Adobe Edge Project File: This is the legacy project format for Adobe Edge Animate, a now-discontinued tool used to create HTML5 web animations. These files contain JSON-like structure definitions for the animation's timeline, assets, and properties.
- The Problem: Since Adobe killed Edge Animate in 2015, opening these files is difficult. They are proprietary, text-based project definitions that modern browsers cannot execute directly.
- The Solution: You typically need to convert these into a usable HTML package or an OAM (Adobe Widget) file for use in Adobe Muse or Dreamweaver. Users often migrate these projects to Adobe Animate (formerly Flash), though manual asset extraction is sometimes required.
- Microsoft Prague / Graph Data File: According to technical telemetry, approximately 84% of .edge files are actually internal configuration or data files associated with the Microsoft Prague framework (related to early Microsoft Fluid or Gesture SDKs) or generic "Edge List" graph data.
- The Problem: These are often plain text files describing connections (edges) between nodes in a graph or storing application state (referenced internally as "Pragma 0.21"). They are not media files and cannot be "played."
- The Solution: For these files, "conversion" usually means viewing the raw data. The best workflow is to open them in a code editor like Visual Studio Code or Notepad++ to inspect the text content, or convert the graph data to CSV or JSON for analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EDGE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted HTML, MHT, PDF, MHTML, HTM, SVG, XML, WEBP, EDGES, DOCX, JPG, XLSX and URL files.
The EDGE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EDGE converter.
