About HGP files
A .HGP file is a proprietary 3D model container utilized by the Nu2 game engine, specifically developed by Traveller's Tales for their popular LEGO video game series (including titles like LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Batman). These files typically store character geometry, meshes, and rigging data required to render the iconic minifigures in-game.
Because .HGP files are compiled for console performance, they present significant friction for modders and 3D artists. They are not compatible with standard 3D software out of the box; you cannot simply drag-and-drop them into Blender or Unity. Users often encounter these files when attempting to extract assets for modding, archiving, or 3D printing, only to find they are locked in a binary format that requires specialized extraction scripts (such as QuickBMS) or legacy plugins for Autodesk 3ds Max. To make these assets usable, the best workflow is converting them to OBJ for static geometry (ideal for 3D printing) or FBX if you need to preserve hierarchy for animation.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HGP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HGP file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Autodesk 3ds Max or similar software from the "Lego Game Character Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to HGP, try Autodesk 3ds Max or another comparable tool in the "Lego Game Character Model" category.
The HGP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HGP converter.
