About GST files
The .gst extension is a classic example of a "filename collision," where multiple unrelated software ecosystems use the exact same tag for completely different purposes. Most commonly, a .gst file is a Game System File created by BattleScribe, the popular army list builder for tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40,000. These files are essentially XML containers that define the rules, stats, and point costs for a specific game faction. The main drawback here is that a .gst file is a library of data, not a viewable roster itself (which usually uses ros or .rosz). Users frequently try to open these directly to "read" the rules, only to be met with raw XML code or errors. For readability, these need to be processed into HTML or PDF documentation.
Alternatively, if you are working in the signage or vinyl cutting industry, your .gst file is likely a proprietary design file generated by Graphtec Studio for Graphtec cutting plotters. These files store vector paths and registration marks specifically for their hardware. The disadvantage is the "walled garden" effect; sharing a .gst design with a user who owns a Roland or Summa cutter is impossible without conversion. For cross-hardware compatibility or client proofs, these should be converted to standard vector formats like PDF, EPS, or SVG.
A third common variant is a session file from Greenshot, a screenshot utility. This saves the "state" of an image editor session, allowing you to re-edit annotations later. These are useless for web publishing or email sharing; you must flatten and convert them to standard raster images like PNG or JPG.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GST Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GST converter.
