About BSI files

The .bsi file usually acts as a Wargame Roster Data Index for BattleScribe, an army list creator for tabletop wargamers. Internally, these files are structured as standard ZIP archives containing XML data that defines rules and unit stats. A smaller percentage of .bsi files are Broadcast Software Database files developed by Broadcast Software International (BSI), which rely on the Microsoft Access JetDB engine.

You need to convert .bsi files when sharing roster data with users who do not have BattleScribe installed, or when extracting raw database tables from a BSI broadcast system without owning Microsoft Access. The main disadvantage of the .bsi format is its proprietary binding. Roster files are useless without the BattleScribe application, and broadcast databases cannot be read natively without specific database drivers.

For BattleScribe files, the best conversion targets are ZIP or XML to extract the raw text data. For BSI database files, target CSV or SQL for universal data reading. Be aware that converting a roster out of BattleScribe means you lose the app's interactive point-calculation features.

Standard online converters fail to process .bsi files because they are highly specific, closed formats. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis detects the supported underlying format (like ZIP or JetDB), meaning viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BSI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GST, CATZ and VTP files.
