Convert a file to GOM
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Media Format" file type, you need software like GOM Player or a similar tool.
About GOM files
The .GOM file is a proprietary GOM Media File developed by Gretech (now GOM & Company) for use with its flagship software, GOM Player. While designated as a media file, it primarily acts as an internal format that the player registers upon installation on Windows operating systems.
The core disadvantage of the .GOM format is its highly restricted nature. It is a closed, proprietary format that cannot be played on mobile devices, embedded in web pages, or read by universal media players like VLC. Users often encounter playback errors because standard industry codecs simply do not recognize the .GOM wrapper.
When dealing with video or audio, it is always best to migrate away from proprietary formats. Converting a .GOM file to MP4, AVI, or MKV ensures seamless compatibility across smartphones, smart TVs, and modern web browsers.
Because this format is inherently obscure, standard online converters routinely fail to process it. Often, only the original GOM Player software can properly read or export the underlying data. Fortunately, convert.guru provides a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analyzer can inspect the proprietary file and reveal internal text or headers. If our engine detects a supported underlying media stream embedded within the file, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your GOM file.

The GOM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GOM converter.
