To convert other file formats to the "Save Game File" file type, you need software like Dolphin Emulator or a similar tool.
About GCI files
The .GCI extension is most frequently associated with Nintendo GameCube save files. Unlike a complete memory card dump (often RAW or GCP), a .GCI file represents a single save block for a specific game, containing the game's unique ID, icon animation data, and progress. While essential for backing up individual saves or sharing them on forums, these files act as loose data blocks that cannot be played directly; they must be imported into a virtual memory card using tools like the Memory Card Manager in Dolphin Emulator. A less common but critical use of the format is in scientific imaging, where .GCI files serve as data containers for Hamamatsu Photonics or Olympus microscopy software. These files often wrap high-fidelity image data that requires proprietary software to view.
For gamers, the goal is typically integration: convert or import the .GCI into a RAW or MCD memory card file for use in emulation. For scientists, the priority is accessibility: converting proprietary microscopy data to open standards like TIFF, .OME-TIFF, or PNG ensures the images can be analyzed in standard tools like ImageJ or published on the web.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCI file to RAW, SAV, GCP, JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP or ICO, you can use Dolphin Emulator or similar software from the "Game Save Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to GCI, try Dolphin Emulator or another comparable tool in the "Game Save Data" category.
The GCI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCI converter.
