About GBX files

The .gbx extension refers to two distinct file formats: the GameBox container used by Trackmania and the Extended Gerber file used in PCB manufacturing.

1. Trackmania GameBox File (Primary Use)

Developed by Nadeo (now Ubisoft), this binary format serves as a universal container for the Trackmania and Shootmania games. It stores everything from Replays (.Replay.Gbx) and Maps (.Challenge.Gbx) to car skins and ghost data.
Conversion Challenge: These files are proprietary and tied to the game engine. Users frequently want to convert .Replay.Gbx files to MP4 or AVI for YouTube, but this cannot be done with a simple online converter. You must render the video using the in-game 'Shoot Video' editor.

2. Gerber RS-274X File (Industrial Use)

In electronics, .gbx indicates an Extended Gerber file, the industry standard for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication. Unlike the game file, this is an ASCII vector format containing 2D layer information (copper, solder mask, drill data).
