A .GBX file usually acts as a proprietary data container for Trackmania, storing 3D custom tracks, car models, replays, or map data created within the game engine. Alternatively, it serves as a Gerber format file, holding 2D binary image information for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication, governed by the RS-274-X standard from Ucamco. Occasionally, it is used as a game box file for the CyberBoard tabletop simulator.
Because .GBX files from Trackmania are encrypted or heavily compressed proprietary archives, they require the actual game engine or specialized community extractors to read. This makes sharing 3D models or track layouts with non-players nearly impossible. Similarly, Gerber .GBX files require specialized PCB CAM viewers like GC-PowerStation or Genesis 2000, which are highly complex and often expensive. Note that extracting Trackmania files to generic 3D formats like OBJ will permanently discard game-specific physics and trigger zones.
