Convert a file to ADG
To convert other file formats to the "DAW Device Preset" file type, you need software like Ableton Live or a similar tool.
About ADG files
The .ADG file is an Ableton Device Group preset used by Ableton Live to save specific configurations of instruments, audio effects, and routing chains. Music producers use these files to instantly recall complex multi-effect setups, macro mappings, and synthesizer patches across different projects.
The primary disadvantage of the .ADG format is its strict lock-in to the Ableton ecosystem. These files contain technical settings and parameter data, not actual audio waveforms. You cannot open an .ADG file in competing Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like FL Studio or Logic Pro. Furthermore, successfully loading the file requires the recipient to have the exact same version of Ableton Live and any third-party VST plugins referenced in the preset. If external samples are used and not bundled, the device will fail to produce sound.
Standard online converters fail to process .ADG files because they incorrectly assume they are audio files. Converting an .ADG directly to MP3 or WAV is impossible outside of the DAW because the file only contains mathematical instructions and routing data, not sound waves.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, extracting meaningful data for use in other audio software is difficult. However, internally, most .ADG files utilize GZ (GZIP) compression to store XML configuration data. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our engine can analyze the .ADG file, inspect the embedded structure, and extract it into a standard ZIP or GZ archive so you can read the raw XML parameters.

The ADG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADG converter.
