Extract text from FXP files

The .FXP extension is shared by two completely different legacy ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users. The most common use (approx. 46%) is as a VST2 Preset File used by digital audio workstations like Steinberg Cubase and FL Studio to store the settings of a single audio plugin. These files are typically binary dumps or proprietary XML chunks that define a specific sound or effect patch.
Why convert it?
The primary disadvantage of VST .FXP files is their reliance on the VST2 standard, which is increasingly deprecated in modern 64-bit DAWs in favor of the newer vstpreset format. Furthermore, without the specific plugin installed (e.g., Sylenth1, Serum), the file is useless; you cannot "hear" the preset just by opening it. Users often need to convert .FXP to FXB (Bank files) to load multiple sounds at once, or migrate them to newer formats for archiving.
Secondary Format: FoxPro Program
A significant portion of .FXP files are compiled program binaries generated by Microsoft Visual FoxPro, a discontinued database development environment. These files contain compiled machine code derived from source PRG files. Because the software was discontinued in 2007, businesses often find themselves locked out of their own logic. These cannot be edited directly; they must be decompiled back to PRG text files or migrated to modern SQL databases.
Other Variations
Less frequently, an .FXP file may be a proprietary audio file for FOXPRO digital game calls (hunting hardware), which requires conversion to MP3 or WAV for playback on standard devices, or a project file for Adobe Flash Builder.
