About FPE files

The .FPE extension is primarily used as a Game Entity Definition file by FPS Creator and GameGuru. These files contain text-based configuration parameters (such as health, damage, and speed) for 3D objects used within the game engine. Alternatively, Nemetschek Allplan uses .FPE for layout window files, which rely on zlib compression and encryption. Finally, Free PDF Editor uses .FPE to store ongoing project states utilizing an internal XML structure.

Users often need to convert or extract data from .FPE files to collaborate with others or finalize projects. However, the format presents severe real-world disadvantages. Game entity files are strictly proprietary text data; they are useless outside the specific game engine without their accompanying DBO or X 3D meshes. Allplan layout files are encrypted and locked behind expensive commercial CAD software licenses. Free PDF Editor projects cannot be opened by standard PDF readers like Adobe Acrobat because they are unfinished project code, not compiled visual documents.

Because these files are closed, proprietary, and serve highly specific internal functions, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data to universal target formats like TXT, DWG, or PDF. Drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FPE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DBO, X, FP3, FPI, DBPRO, BDM and FPS files.

The FPE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FPE converter.
