About DBPRO files

A .dbpro file is a DarkBASIC Professional Project File created by The Game Creators. It is utilized by the DarkBASIC Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to manage game development projects.

The main disadvantage of the .dbpro format is its obsolescence and highly proprietary nature. It is tied to a discontinued 32-bit game engine. Furthermore, users often confuse this file for a playable game. In reality, it does not contain executable code, 3D models, or audio. It is strictly a plain-text configuration file that stores IDE settings, window resolutions, compiler flags, and relative file paths pointing to the actual source code (DBA) and media assets. Because it is a project wrapper, it cannot be opened by web browsers or modern game engines like Unity or Godot.

The best conversion targets for a .dbpro file are standard text formats like TXT, XML, or JSON. Converting to these formats allows you to extract the raw build settings and asset paths safely without needing the original IDE.

Standard online converters fail to process this format because they expect standard media or document types, not legacy IDE configurations. Often only the original DarkBASIC compiler can properly read the data to export an executable game (EXE). Our analysis easily detects the underlying plain text, allowing you to inspect the file and extract its references instantly.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DBPRO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DBA, DPP and GME files.
