Extract text from FastReport or FileMaker files (FP3)
To convert FP3 database files to another format, you need FastReport VCL or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "XML Report File" file type, you need software like FastReport VCL or a similar tool.
The .FP3 file extension primarily acts as an XML-based prepared report preview generated by FastReport VCL. These files store document layouts, text, and tabular data extracted from a database, prepared specifically for printing or viewing. Alternatively, .FP3 is used as a legacy relational database format by FileMaker Pro 3 and as a 3D floor plan drawing by IMSI/Design FloorPlan Plus.
Opening these files natively requires specialized or obsolete software. For reports, you need the proprietary FastReport Viewer. For databases, you need a vintage copy of FileMaker Pro 3, as modern versions have abandoned support for this legacy architecture.
This format is highly restrictive and creates severe vendor lock-in. FastReport .FP3 files cannot be opened by standard web browsers or office suites, making them impossible to share with clients or colleagues who lack the specific viewer. The FileMaker Pro 3 format is completely obsolete; modern FileMaker installations cannot open it without a tedious, multi-step upgrade process through intermediate legacy versions (like FileMaker 11).
To make this data usable, conversion is mandatory. For sharing and archiving business reports, convert .FP3 to PDF. To extract the raw structured data for analysis, convert it to XML or CSV. If you are recovering an old database, extracting the tables to CSV is the most practical workaround.
