About FONT files

The .font file extension is primarily used to store proprietary bitmap fonts and font definitions for various video game engines. Rather than containing scalable vector graphics like standard typographic files, these files often hold pre-rendered pixel data or XML-based coordinate maps that point to a separate texture atlas. Common engines utilizing this fragmented format include the Valve GoldSrc engine, SCS Software (used in Euro Truck Simulator 2), and the Unity game engine (often packed within UnityFS archives). Some legacy mobile platforms like Qualcomm BREW and UI middleware like Autodesk Scaleform GFx also rely on this extension. The primary disadvantage of the .font format is its rigid, proprietary nature. These files are typically locked to the specific game or software that compiled them, making them completely incompatible with standard operating system font managers. You cannot install a .font file on Windows or macOS, and standard design software will not recognize it. Furthermore, because many are bitmap-based, they do not scale well and will appear heavily pixelated if upsized. Users usually need to extract or convert these files to modify game UI, localize text, or port legacy assets to modern engines. For editing in modern software like Fontographer, you must convert these files to standard TTF or OTF formats. If you intend to use the font on a website, converting to WOFF or WOFF2 is the industry standard. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FONT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TTF, OTF, WOFF2, ZIP, WOFF, FON, JPG, PDF, DOCX, SVG, DMG and TXT files.

The FONT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FONT converter.
