About FOB files

The .fob file extension is primarily known as a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Object file. These files store proprietary, compiled business application code, database tables, UI forms, and reports for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP system. A secondary, but notable use case involves Fines On-Line systems storing Traffic Fine Notice Images using an underlying TIFF image structure.

The main disadvantage of NAV .fob files is their closed, proprietary nature. They are compiled binary files, meaning you cannot open or read the source code with a standard text editor. Furthermore, they are strictly version-dependent; a file compiled in a newer release cannot be opened in an older client. You typically need an expensive, licensed installation of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment to access the data.

To make this data accessible, .fob files must ideally be exported as TXT files directly from within the NAV client, which exposes the underlying C/AL code in plain text. If your file is a traffic fine image, it should be converted to PDF, JPG, or PNG so it can be universally viewed on mobile devices and web browsers.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to process outside of its native ecosystem. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail to process compiled NAV objects. We can inspect the file to extract readable text strings, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a standard TIFF image - viewing or conversion may still be seamlessly achieved.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FOB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XLSX, XLS, VOB, PNG, PDF, JPG, EML, P7S, XAPK, MSI, SLDPRT, NSZ and CIA files.

The FOB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FOB converter.
