About IPG files
An .IPG file is primarily associated with legacy iPod Click Wheel games, distributed via iTunes for older devices like the iPod Nano or iPod Classic. These files are technically renamed ZIP containers holding the game's executable code, audio assets, and graphics. Because this format is tied to obsolete hardware and Digital Rights Management (DRM), opening them on modern iOS devices or extracting their contents is often impossible without specific workarounds. A significant portion of .ipg files encountered today are actually just JPG images with a file extension typo, as the 'I' and 'J' keys are adjacent on standard QWERTY keyboards. If your file is a legitimate game archive, the proprietary nature locks you out of the content unless you rename the extension to ZIP to inspect the internal assets. For preservation or access, converting the internal assets (often raw audio or standard images) to open formats is essential. If the file is a mistyped image, converting it to standard JPG, PNG, or WebP restores compatibility with web browsers and photo editors.

The IPG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPG converter.
