About EDL files
EDL (Edit Decision List) files are used in post-production to keep track of the editing decisions made in the editing process. EDLs are used to transfer edits between different editing systems, and can be used to create a rough cut of a project. EDLs are text-based files that contain a list of instructions for the editing system, such as which clips to use, where to start and end them, and any effects or transitions applied. EDLs are commonly used in film and television production, as well as in video editing software.
The most common EDL file types are CMX 3600 EDL, Avid EDL, and Final Cut Pro EDL. CMX 3600 EDL is the oldest EDL format, and is still used for some older editing systems. Avid EDL is the most common EDL format, and is used by Avid Media Composer and other Avid editing systems. Final Cut Pro EDL is used by Apple Final Cut Pro and other Apple editing systems.
There are several software programs available for converting EDL files, such as various tools, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid Media Composer. It is important to consider the type of EDL file you are converting, as some programs may not be able to convert all EDL file types.
