Convert FCSTD to another file type
To convert your FCSTD file to another format, you need FreeCAD or other Cad software.
Convert a file to FCSTD
To convert other file formats to the "Parametric 3D Model" file type, you need software like FreeCAD or a similar tool.
About FCSTD files
The .FCSTD extension represents the native project file used by FreeCAD, a popular open-source parametric 3D modeler. Internally, this file is actually a ZIP archive containing XML definitions (Document.xml) and external asset files that describe the geometry, constraints, and design history of a 3D model.
While .FCSTD files are excellent for saving your work-in-progress designs, they present significant friction when sharing data with collaborators who use different software. You cannot natively import an .FCSTD file into industry-standard tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360. Furthermore, they are not suitable for direct manufacturing or web visualization. To bridge this gap, conversion is essential:
For CAD Interoperability: Convert to STEP (ISO 10303) or IGES. These neutral formats preserve the precise solid geometry and curves required for engineering.
For 3D Printing: Convert to STL or 3MF. These mesh formats approximate the geometry with triangles, which slicer software can read.
For Rendering & Web: Convert to OBJ or GLTF. These are optimized for visual appearance rather than engineering precision.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FCSTD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FCSTD file to STL, STEP, DWG, DXF, F3D, PDF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM or IGES, you can use FreeCAD or similar software from the "Parametric 3D CAD Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to FCSTD, try FreeCAD or another comparable tool in the "Parametric 3D CAD Storage" category.
The FCSTD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FCSTD converter.
