About FCSTD files

The .FCSTD extension represents the native project file used by FreeCAD, a popular open-source parametric 3D modeler. Internally, this file is actually a ZIP archive containing XML definitions (Document.xml) and external asset files that describe the geometry, constraints, and design history of a 3D model.

While .FCSTD files are excellent for saving your work-in-progress designs, they present significant friction when sharing data with collaborators who use different software. You cannot natively import an .FCSTD file into industry-standard tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360. Furthermore, they are not suitable for direct manufacturing or web visualization.
