Extract text from AutoLISP and FASTA files (FAS)

A .FAS file represents one of two distinct formats: a Compiled AutoLISP Script used by Autodesk AutoCAD, or a plain text FASTA Sequence file used in bioinformatics to store DNA and protein data.
When functioning as a compiled AutoLISP script, the .FAS file contains executable instructions for AutoCAD. The primary disadvantage of this format is its closed, proprietary nature. Developers compile human-readable LSP files into binary .FAS files specifically to protect their intellectual property and optimize loading times. Consequently, you cannot simply open and edit the code. Because it is an encrypted or compiled binary, standard online converters fail to process it. Reversing this back to an editable LSP file requires highly specialized decompilation software, not a simple format shift.
If the file is a biological sequence, it is generated by software like NCBI BLAST or BioEdit. These files use a standard text-based format. The main challenge here is file size; raw genomic datasets easily exceed several gigabytes, which will freeze standard text editors and crash web browsers.
For biological files, the best conversion targets are TXT, CSV, or XML to make the raw data easier to parse in spreadsheet tools. For CAD scripts, users usually want to convert back to LSP, but this is technically complex.
