Convert MAS to another file type
To convert MAS Assets to another format, you need rFactor or other Game software.
Convert a file to MAS
To convert other file formats to the "Asset Archive File" file type, you need software like rFactor or a similar tool.
About MAS files
The .MAS file extension primarily acts as a Game Asset Archive for racing simulators running the gMotor engine, such as rFactor by Image Space Incorporated. These archives bundle 3D models, textures, sounds, and track data. Secondarily, .MAS files serve as Multiple Sequence Alignment files for the MEGA (Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis) scientific software.
The main disadvantage of the gaming .MAS format is its proprietary compression. Files regularly exceed hundreds of megabytes and cannot be opened by standard tools like WinRAR or 7-Zip. Modders are locked out of editing game assets unless they use specific developer utilities. Similarly, MEGA .MAS files are proprietary binary files that lock scientific alignment data into a specific software ecosystem, making collaboration difficult with researchers who use different sequence analysis tools.
To solve these problems, gaming .MAS files must be extracted into their component formats: DDS for textures, GMT for 3D models, and WAV for audio. For scientific .MAS files, the best conversion targets are universally recognized biological data formats like FASTA or .NEXUS, though you may lose specific visual color-coding established in the MEGA viewer.
Because .MAS is a closed, proprietary format heavily fragmented across completely different industries, standard online converters fail to process it. Usually, only the original gMotor extraction tools or the MEGA software can properly export the data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MAS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MAS file to MSV, MA, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB or MYD, you can use rFactor or similar software from the "Game Asset Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to MAS, try rFactor or another comparable tool in the "Game Asset Archive" category.
The MAS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAS converter.
