About LISP files

The .lisp file extension serves two entirely different purposes in the real world. Originally and legitimately, it is a plain text Lisp Source Code file written in the Lisp programming language. These files contain developer code processed by compilers like LispWorks. However, .lisp is also notoriously used by a modern variant of the STOP/Djvu ransomware. If your personal documents, images, or archives (like PDF, JPG, or ZIP) suddenly end with the .lisp extension, they have been locked by malware.

The main disadvantage of the ransomware .lisp format is that the original data is mathematically encrypted. Standard file conversion tools completely fail here because they expect standard file structures, not locked data blocks. You cannot simply rename or 'convert' a ransomware file back to its original format without the attacker's exact decryption key.

Legitimate Lisp source code files, being simple text, are easy to work with but lack universal formatting for non-programmers. For sharing or documenting code, it is highly recommended to convert legitimate .lisp files to TXT, MD, or PDF.

Because this file extension has such drastically different uses, standard tools often misidentify it. If our analysis detects plain text code, we can easily convert it. If it detects ransomware encryption, standard conversion is strictly impossible, but our tool safely confirms the file's true state without executing malicious code.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LISP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LSP, VLX, LLSP, TXT, FAS, DWG, SHX, VBA, PYTHON and JAVA files.

FAQ

If you want to convert LISP file to FAS, VBA, PYTHON, VLX, JAVA, JS, TS, PY, CPP, C, CS or PHP, you can use LispWorks or similar software from the "Programming Code or Encrypted File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The LISP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LISP converter.
