About ESP files
The .ESP file extension is primarily used as an Elder Scrolls Plugin by Bethesda Game Studios for games like Skyrim and Fallout. It contains mod data that alters the base game. Secondarily, it functions as a project file for Google Earth Studio, saving animation paths in a structured JSON format. Other minor uses include ESPRIT CAM data or ACD/Labs NMR spectral data. These formats come with strict limitations. Game .ESP files are proprietary formats that only work inside specific game engines. They require heavy tools like the Bethesda Creation Kit to open. Earth Studio .ESP files require an active internet connection and Google authentication to access the cloud-based editor. To overcome these barriers, conversion is often necessary. Game modders convert .ESP to ESM (Master File) to build dependencies, or extract records to XML and TXT for text-based editing. For Earth Studio, the ultimate goal is rendering the project to an MP4 video or extracting the raw JSON coordinates. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ESP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ESP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ESP converter.
