About EMP files

The .EMP file extension represents a diverse set of technical data formats, primarily used in engineering and manufacturing. The most common variation is the PCB component placement file generated by Valor NPI (now part of Siemens EDA), used to define part libraries for circuit board assembly. A widely used alternative is the Page Macro file for EPLAN Electric P8, which stores reusable electrical schematic sections. In Italy, these files function as Cadastral Map Extracts created by the Pregeo software for land surveying.

Because these files are specialized binary or XML-based containers, they cannot be opened by standard text editors or web browsers. Engineers and planners often struggle to view the contents without expensive proprietary licenses (like Siemens or EPLAN) or legacy government software.
