A .DUC file primarily functions as an Action Replay DS savegame file created by Datel. It is strictly used to store Nintendo DS game saves, cheat codes, or modified game states. A secondary, but critical, use for the .DUC extension is as a firmware and avionics data update package for Dynon Avionics SkyView systems.
These files are notoriously frustrating to work with. The Action Replay DS save format is proprietary, obfuscated, and tightly locked to the physical Action Replay hardware. This deliberately restricts users from easily moving their hard-earned game saves between different flashcarts, modern PC emulators like DeSmuME, or Android devices. In the aviation world, the Dynon Avionics update files are highly sensitive; they are essentially renamed ZIP archives containing firmware. Modifying these without extreme care can permanently brick expensive flight instrumentation.
Because these files contain either raw binary memory dumps or proprietary system packages, standard online document or media converters will always fail to process them. Gamers looking to liberate their save data typically need specialized, offline conversion tools to translate the .DUC header into a standard SAV or DSV format.
