Extract text from DaVinci Resolve projects (DRP)
To convert DRP projects to another format, you need DaVinci Resolve or other Video software.
To convert other file formats to the "Video Editing Project" file type, you need software like DaVinci Resolve or a similar tool.
A .DRP file is a DaVinci Resolve Project file created by Blackmagic Design. It stores non-destructive video editing timelines, color grading settings, and media paths. A secondary, less common use is as an Audio DSP preset file for the AIMP audio player, or a DrawPad Image Project by NCH Software.
Users often need to convert this file when collaborating with editors who use Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro. The major disadvantage of the .DRP format is that it is proprietary and acts as a closed ecosystem. It does not contain actual video or audio data, only references to local files. Standard online converters fail to process it because you cannot simply convert project data into a playable MP4 video without the original media files and the rendering engine.
The best target formats for timeline sharing are XML, AAF, or EDL, but these typically must be exported directly from within the video editor. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert externally, you are usually restricted to the original software.
However, a .DRP file is internally built as a ZIP archive containing databases. We can inspect the file, unpack the archive, and extract the underlying XML or SQLite database contents. If our analysis detects this supported underlying structure, viewing the raw project metadata is still possible.
