A .DPR file primarily functions as a Delphi Project Source file used by Embarcadero Delphi to manage software development projects. It serves as the main entry point for a program, containing Pascal code that links all individual units (like PAS source files and DFM form files) together. Alternatively, a .DPR file may be a Healthcare Daily Payment Report (Data Processing Report) generated by US insurance payers, a CAD/CAM part description used by Alma CAM or TruTops Punch, or a Digital InterPlot file from Bentley Systems.
Because .DPR shares the same file extension across entirely different industries, users frequently struggle to handle them. Delphi project files are essentially structured text, but they are useless to open without the accompanying source files needed to compile the actual program. Healthcare reports and CAD/CAM .DPR files pose an even bigger challenge. They are proprietary, undocumented data structures that often require expensive enterprise software licenses or specific vendor portals to access. Standard online converters fail because they cannot guess which of the multiple formats your specific .DPR file belongs to.
If you have a Delphi file, the most realistic target format is a simple TXT file so you can read the raw Pascal code. For CAD/CAM variants, exporting to DXF is ideal but requires the original CAM software. Converting a Delphi .DPR directly into an executable application (EXE) is impossible with a basic converter; you must compile it using the Delphi compiler.
