About DRT files
A .DRT file is a project timeline export used by DaVinci Resolve. It saves cut points, effects, and audio tracks for a specific video sequence. Blackmagic Design created this proprietary format to allow editors to share individual timelines without sending the entire heavy project file. Users desperately try to convert .DRT files to MP4 or MOV because they assume it is a playable video file. This is the main disadvantage of the format: it contains absolutely no media, only text-based instructions wrapped in a ZIP archive. When shared, the recipient will see 'Media Offline' errors unless the original video files are also provided. It also requires a heavy desktop application to open. To migrate your edit to Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, you must export the timeline as an XML or AAF file directly from the software. Standard online converters fail to process this file because they try to transcode video frames that do not exist. Since DaVinci .DRT files are standard ZIP archives under the hood, our tool can extract the underlying XML instructions. Additionally, if your file is an Innova vehicle diagnostic report, our analysis will detect the embedded XML format and allow you to safely view the diagnostic text.
