About DPT files

DPT files are most frequently Data Point Tables used in scientific research, specifically for FTIR spectroscopy. Generated by laboratory instruments running software like Bruker OPUS or PerkinElmer Spectrum, these files contain raw spectral data points (typically wavenumber vs. absorbance/intensity) essential for chemical analysis. While often stored as ASCII text, they lack standard headers, making them difficult to import directly into generic spreadsheet tools without cleanup.

A secondary but distinct use of the .dpt extension is for WPS Office (formerly Kingsoft) Presentation Templates. Similar to a POTX in Microsoft PowerPoint, these files store slide layouts and designs. The proprietary nature of the WPS format often leads to compatibility errors when sharing with PowerPoint users.
