Extract text from PowerShape CAD models (DGK)

To convert other file formats to the "3D CAD Model File" file type, you need software like Autodesk PowerShape or a similar tool.
The .DGK file is a proprietary 3D CAD model format used primarily for designing complex parts, tooling, and molds. It was originally developed by Delcam before the company was acquired by Autodesk, which integrated the format into Autodesk PowerShape. These files store 3D surfaces, solid bodies, and wireframe geometry used extensively in advanced manufacturing and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) workflows.
Users often need to convert .DGK files because the format is highly restrictive. It is a closed, proprietary file type that requires an expensive software subscription to open and edit natively. Standard web browsers, generic 3D viewers, and even mainstream CAD tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD cannot import .DGK files directly. This makes sharing designs with clients, external machine shops, or non-PowerShape users extremely difficult.
The best target formats for conversion are STEP or IGES if you need to preserve precise NURBS surfaces and solid geometry for engineering purposes. If you only need a visual reference or a mesh for 3D printing, STL or OBJ are excellent choices. Be aware that converting from .DGK to standard neutral formats usually destroys the parametric design history, leaving you with a "dumb solid" or uneditable mesh.
