About DDB files

The .DDB file extension primarily represents a Protel Design Database, used by legacy Protel 99 SE (now Altium Designer) to package schematics, PCB layouts, and routing data into a single project archive. Alternatively, it is heavily used as a Vocaloid Voicebank Dictionary in Yamaha Vocaloid software to store phonetic and pronunciation data. Other applications use it for Dranetz power analyzer data, AllMyNotes Organizer databases, and even standard SQLite3 or JSON-based configurations.

Because the .DDB extension is shared by completely unrelated applications, dealing with it is often frustrating. Protel .DDB files are proprietary, legacy archives (frequently utilizing the Microsoft Access JetDB format under the hood) that require expensive, specialized EDA software to open. They are prone to corruption, cannot be previewed natively in modern operating systems, and are entirely useless for web sharing. Vocaloid .DDB files are strictly proprietary audio-mapping data locked to specific software ecosystems.

Converting a .DDB file depends entirely on its origin. For PCB designs, you must extract the internal schematics and convert them to .GERBER for manufacturing or PDF for printing and archiving. For SQLite-based .DDB files, convert to CSV or JSON for data portability. For AllMyNotes databases, export the text to RTF or TXT.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DDS, DDBX, DBK, JPG, DB, BKP, ROZ, CSV, IFO, ZIP, DMP, PNG and DAT files.

The DDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDB converter.
