Convert D2 to another file type
To convert D2 EEG files to another format, you need BrainVision Analyzer or other Data software.
Convert a file to D2
To convert other file formats to the "Neurophysiology Data File" file type, you need software like BrainVision Analyzer or a similar tool.
About D2 files
The .d2 file format is a proprietary data container used to store raw Electroencephalography (EEG) recordings. It is primarily generated by the NEUROWERK EEG system manufactured by SIGMA Medizin-Technik. These files capture electrical brain activity over time, used extensively by neurologists and researchers for clinical diagnostics and neuroscience studies. To open or process .d2 files natively, you need specialized medical software such as the NEUROWERK Center or BrainVision Analyzer by Brain Products. The main disadvantage of the .d2 format is its proprietary, closed nature. It locks your neurophysiological data inside a vendor-specific ecosystem, often requiring an expensive perpetual license or ongoing subscription to access. You cannot simply view these files in a web browser or standard text editor. Furthermore, EEG recordings can easily exceed gigabytes in size, making them difficult to share across different research institutions. Users typically need to convert .d2 files to standardized, open formats to ensure long-term archiving and cross-platform compatibility. The most common conversion target is EDF (European Data Format), which is the universal standard for polygraphic medical recordings. Other useful targets include CSV for raw data processing in Python or MAT for MATLAB analysis. Note that converting to plain CSV will strip away proprietary clinical metadata and patient annotations embedded in the original file. Because .d2 is a closed binary format, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert using standard online tools. Often, only the original clinical software possesses the exact decoding logic required to export the raw time-series data accurately. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file headers, and show embedded metadata or raw text blocks. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your D2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert D2 file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use BrainVision Analyzer or similar software from the "EEG Measurement Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to D2, try BrainVision Analyzer or another comparable tool in the "EEG Measurement Data Storage" category.
The D2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our D2 converter.
