The .edf extension primarily denotes the European Data Format, a standard file type developed for the exchange and storage of multichannel biological and physical signals. It is the de facto standard for Polygraphy and Polysomnography (sleep) recordings, commonly storing EEG, ECG, and EMG data. While highly efficient for storing time-series data, .edf files are binary and cannot be opened in standard text editors or spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. Less commonly, an .edf file may represent an Edificius Project file used by ACCA Software for Building Information Modeling (BIM), or a locked game resource file for RF Online.
