The .tw file extension primarily belongs to proprietary dental imaging archives used by software like Carestream Dental and Planmeca Romexis. These files package patient X-rays, 3D scans, and metadata into a single compressed container. A major disadvantage of this format is that it locks patient data into closed medical ecosystems. Patients and referring doctors often receive .tw files on CDs or USB drives but cannot view the contents without expensive, specialized viewer software installed on their computers.
