About CYP files

A .cyp file most commonly represents a structural analysis project created by CYPE software, used extensively in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors. These files function as proprietary containers for building models, load calculations, and material specifications. A significant portion of .cyp files are actually GZIP compressed archives, masking their internal data structure. Users without a licensed copy of CYPE often find these files impossible to open, creating a major bottleneck for collaboration with stakeholders who use generic CAD tools like AutoCAD or Revit.

Another frequent use of the extension is for Ashampoo 3D CAD projects. Like CYPE files, these are locked into the vendor's ecosystem, preventing easy viewing on mobile devices or web browsers. In the database world, a .cyp file might be a plain text script written in the Cypher query language for Neo4j.
