About RLD files

The .RLD file is primarily a laser cutter design and project file created by RDWorks, the standard proprietary software for Ruida Technology laser controllers. It stores both the vector geometry for the design and the specific CAM parameters - such as cutting speed, laser power percentages, pass counts, and air assist toggles - required to execute the cut on the physical machine.

Because .RLD is a closed, proprietary format, it has significant disadvantages for collaboration and file sharing. You cannot open these files in standard vector graphic editors like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, or CorelDRAW. Furthermore, natively opening the file requires a Windows PC running the exact version of RDWorks it was created in, which frustrates Mac users or designers trying to share templates online.

Users typically need to convert .RLD files to standard vector formats like DXF, SVG, or AI to edit the paths in standard design software. However, this conversion requires a compromise: exporting an .RLD to DXF will result in the total loss of all laser-specific machine parameters. Only the raw vector paths will survive the conversion process.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert outside of the original ecosystem. Often, only RDWorks or the premium laser software LightBurn can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded vector format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

*(Note: Less common uses for the .RLD extension include CAD reinforcement steel schedules in Nemetschek Allplan, refrigeration data logs, and script files for the RealLive game engine.)*

Convert.Guru analyzes your RLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RDL, RD, AI, RLF, JPG, PDF, RDS, DRW, PLT, JPEG, OFM, DXF and AAE files.

The RLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RLD converter.
